The Committee's Report 1909

Your Committee beg to present the Annual balance Sheet and Report for 1909.

Of the twenty home and home First-class Matches played, six were won, five drawn, eight lost, and one abandoned. It was an unsuccessful and disappointing season, but the Eleven shewed their best form against in their strongest opponents.

The thanks of the Committee are once more due to Mr. Jones for his valuable services and untiring efforts as Captain of the Notts. Eleven.

Home and home matches have been arranged with the Counties of Yorkshire, Lancashire, Middlesex, Essex, Surrey, Sussex, Leicestershire, Gloucestershire, Derbyshire and Northamptonshire. Matches have also been arranged with M.C.C. at Lord's, with Woodbrook Club and Ground at Bray, and Dublin University at Dublin. Both the Irish Matches are played at no expense to Notts. County.

The Minor Counties Matches proved more successful. Of the eleven Matches played, seven were won, three lost and one drawn. The Team headed the Northern Division, but were beaten in the Semi Final Match, at Cardiff by Glamorganshire. The Committee are of the opinion that although these Matches are expensive, they have justified themselves by the development of several most promising players. The Committee thank the Rev H. Staunton for his excellent managment of the team as Captain.

A series of Minor Counties Matches have been arranged for the coming season.

The Club and Ground played eighteen Matches, of which fourteen were won, one lost, and three drawn. Four District Colts Matches were also played.

The Gate Receipts fell from 2,023 1d in 1908 to £1,549 10s 11d.

The President of the Club most generously contributed £100 to the funds, and also made a donation of £25 towards the expenses of the Minor Counties Matches. A further sum of £51 5s 0d was contributed towards these expense by various donors making a total of £76 5s 0d.

A Legacy of £100, less duty was received from the Executors of the late. Dr. Bland, of Sandiacre. The Committee are pleased to state that the Testimonial to Mr. Jones reached the sum of £1,577 12s 5d. This has been placed in the hands of the Trustees and invested.

The amount now standing to the Account of the Benefits to the six Professionals is £1,000 12s 2d. Increasing expenses - which are necessary if the Club is to be kept in a state of efficiency - render a very desirable that a special effort should be made to increase the Membership. The appeal made some years ago was very successful. The number of Members now amounts to over 2,300. To enable the Committee, however to carry on the work of maintaining an improving Notts. Cricket, and to keep free from debt, requires a Membership of 3,000. It is earnestly to be hoped that all Members of the Club will use their utmost efforts to increase the Membership during the coming season.
