Signed as a direct replacement for Rob Ferley in 2009, the former Northants off-spinner initially signed a two year-deal with Nottinghamshire but injuries limited his opportunities and he left the club after just one season, having played ten matches in all competitions.
For Northants, he took 414 first-class wickets during his 14-year career at Wantage Road, having made his debut against Yorkshire in 1996. He was selected for England to tour Sri Lanka in 2001, but only played in one warm-up game.
Brown played five Pro40 matches, and two Friends Provident Trophy and Twenty20 Cup games for Nottinghamshire, taking three wickets, all in the Pro40 competition. His one First-Class match for Notts was against Oxford University CCE in June 2009, in which he did not bat in either innings and bowled just one over.
His chances of representing Nottinghamshire were not helped following the arrival of former Northamptonshire team-mate and fellow spinner Graeme White and he did not complete the second year of his contract.
Jason Fred Brown was born in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, on 10 October 1974 and played for his native county in Minor Counties competitions prior to signing for Northants.
