John Day

John Day was only 17 when he first turned out for Nottingham in 1829, having been born in the town in 1812.

His expertise as a long-stop seems to have clinched his place in the side and he played in eight matches, the final one being in 1835. Like a number of his colleagues he was a lacemaker by trade.

He was still living, in New Lenton, in 1873, but his death has yet to be traced.
