A left-hand opening bat, Turner was brought into the Notts side in the latter half of the 2011 season, having hit 185 for Notts Seconds v MCC Universities at Weetwood.

He played in five first-class Notts games scoring 227 runs, average 25.22 and was then offered a one year contract for 2012. In fact he was given no opportunities with the Notts senior side last year and his efforts were confined to the Seconds, where he hit 574 runs, average 52.18. He had played his cricket for Durham Second XI, before moving to Trent Bridge, having been a member of the Durham Academy from 2004.
