Nicky Boje, born in Bloemfontein on March 20, 1973, is a left hand bat and left arm spin bowler. He played for Orange Free State and made his South African One Day International debut in 1995/96, but his Test debut didn’t come until 1999/00.
Like Klusener he came to England with the South African 1999 World Cup squad but only played in two games. He had previously toured England with South Africa ‘A’ in 1996.
In his nine Championship games for Notts in 2002 he took 27 wickets @24.85, being the only Notts bowler to concede fewer than three runs per over that season. His nine wickets in a crunch game against Derby in July 2002 went a long way towards winning that match. His final appearance for Nottinghamshire against Glamorgan at Rhos-on-Sea was his best match, when he took six for 128 in the only innings and hit 101 runs (31 and 70).
Boje joined Northamptonshire for the last few weeks of the 2007 season and in 2008 he took over the role as captain for Northamptonshire. In that season, he scored his highest ever first-class cricket score of 226*. He left Northamptonshire at the end of the 2010 season.
During his career he played in 43 Tests, 115 One Day Internationals and a single Twenty20 International for South Africa. He finished with exactly 100 Test wickets @42.65 and scored 1,312 Test runs @25.23.
